Well you've always heard that the Batmobile was based on a Pontiac-------Not true----sort of.
The infamous TV Batmobile used to be the '55 Lincoln Futura Prototype turned crime fighter by George Barris for the '66 Batman TV Show.
Years later replicas were spawned from molds and I snagged one in 2002. As a Pontiac fan at heart, I wanted a Pontiac to be my donor chassis. As luck would have it, only the '73-'76 Pontiac Catalina B-Body Wagons (& the Olds & Buick) were the correct wheelbase without being altered (Chevy's were 2" too short).
In any event, the quest was on to reproduce the Batmobile in full high detailed scale to match the famous car all on a PONTIAC chassis.
I opted for a '76 Catalina rust-free Wagon and summarily tore it down to make a frame up restored donor chassis for this Pontiac based replica. I snatched the freshly built 455 out of my '71 Triple Black Lemans Sport Convertible and along with a built 400 Transmission put these nicely in my Batmobile.
Imagine if you will this chassis no longer has to muster the weight of an all steel doghouse, body, 4 doors, tailgate & chrome bumpers. It now has this light weight body kit so it flat out flies!
All the Bat-gadgets work similiar to the TV show including the chrome chain-cutter blade the pokes out of the front bumper and the working afterburner that will fire off a 2ft flame.
I'll post more photos if I can figure out where to post them.
Enjoy!
