I bought this car for my b'day last yr (Jul 14) Been savin up my $$ to finally replace the 301. 350 from a '76 should be just fine. Its an Original 51 51 Pontiac Goldenrod Yellow (which i intend to keep OG) with Camel Tan leather seats. Stay tuned for more pics.. or suggestions

Good luck to you!!always good to  see another one saved from the crusher..also good choice to upgrade from the 301, had i knew then what i know now, i would not have put the $$ in the 301 in mine,as a could have built a first class 400 for the same money(and easier to find parts for.lol) even though i wanted to keep it "numbers matching"..

Trans is really a matter of what you want, assuming you have the original 350 trans, I would have it rebuilt and match the torque converter to your engine specs (unless it is a lock-up 350, look for a plastic plug facing upward just behind and above the shifter arm). A th400 will require a different yoke and a shorter driveshaft, and a different shift cable bracket. Also the 400 uses an electric kickdown switch on the gas pedal instead of a cable. Another option is a beefed up 200r4 overdrive, which will let you run 3.42 or 3.73 gears and still run easily on the highway. Love those Year One snowflakes, but the price for 4 and rubber....

i jus got center caps for it in gold...i found a couple aftermarket rims thatwill look nice.  But more than likely i am getting the Year 1 snowflakes in 18x9.  The 350 is in the machine shop.  .030 over and all the good stuff. I doubt if i will post the pasrticulars of my enigine internal but its gonna run.  Hey guys 350 or 400 trans...thx  for the comments..keep'em coming!!

Nice start for your project. My 79 Formula has a 75 350 as well, check out my pics to see how close the 350 looks compared to your 301. I like the Rally II wheels, but if you don't have the center caps, buy them soon. The price has doubled in the past 5-6 years from the resto shops, they are New Old Stock and as the supply dwindles, the price goes up. So far nobody makes repro caps for the 70's wheels, just the 60's ones.

Nice. I think the 350 is a good step up from the 301. I did the same thing for my '79 GP. everything bolts right up, even the exaust manifolds....if you plan to run those. If not you can easily get headers for 'birds with a pontiac motor. Are you keeping those wheels? If not snowflakes would look really good with that color.
