For the last three years, my big project has been building and maintaining a Street Stock dirt race car for my Church's outreach program. Our church uses the car to promote a healthy, family lifestyle at the track and local community events, such as car shows, parades, and the local truck stop as well as Church events. The original driver was Robin Perrin of Roebuck ON,he drove for 6 seasons, but for 2007 he retired, passing the wheel to Bob Botting of Kingston ON for one season. This year, 2008, we have Danny Mocibob of Brockville (and our church custodian) driving in his rookie season. The car started out as a 1983 Olds Cutlass chassis and body, but after two seasons, it needed a facelift, so we rebodied it with a 93 Grand Prix body. The car runs a 4 bolt main Chevy 350 (as per class rules) with .030 over dish pistons, stock crank and rods (ARP bolts), speed pro cam, 397126 cast heads with 1.94 intakes and 1.50 exhausts, stock 2bbl intake and Holley 500cfm 2bbl carb. The exhaust is Hedman Headers and 2.5" pipes with flowmaster mufflers. The trans is a th350 with a 2.41:1 geared 10-bolt rear end, we run in first gear (2.52:1) which gives us a total gear reduction of 6.07:1, it tops out at 6300rpm at the end of the straights on our 1/4 mile dirt oval. It runs P255/60R15 Cooper Cobras on the right side with P245/60R15's on the left for stagger. For more info go to www.wallstreetchurch.com click on "ministries" and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the racecar. Feel free to comment or send a private message if you have any questions. ***UPDATE***March 24/08 Pulled engine last weekend to freshen it up after two full seasons of hard abuse. Found #4 piston starting to scuff, likely from a massive overheat when we lost the fanbelt during the last race. Ordered an engine kit from Summit Racing with flattops, hopefully a bit more power from the extra squeeze. Also ordered an Isky cam to meet the new 450" lift rule, that sucks-the old cam was cheaper with an "off the shelf" lift of 487" and it worked great! Hope to have the new mill back in the car within a couple of weeks, test and tune day is May 10. Keep you posted! **UPDATE** May18/08- first night ou with new engine and new driver (never driven a racecar before!). Rained hard for 15 minutes just before the track opened for the night, had to wait for the track packers to do their thing. Track was very muddy for the qualifying heats, we finished fifth out of 6 cars in the heat and the car put on almost 400lbs, due to the wet, sticky clay. Started 9th out of 11 cars in the feature and finished fourth behind the top three cars from last season, our rookie driver is smooth! Hopefully more good news to come! ***UPDATE*** Saturday, July 12, Danny Mocibob pilots the Church car to his first heat race win! Only to be rained out before the feature! Get this... the points leader and last years champion finished 2nd and 3rd behind him! So far holding 5th place in points. Go Danny!!!
***UPDATE*** July 30, 2008. Sad news this time, Bev Reid, our friend and teammate passed away today at 65 years of age. Despite being a double amputee and confined to a wheel chair, Bev was extremely active in the Church Car team, recruiting new help and giving us the use of his well equipped shop to store and maintain the car. His unique sense of humor and giving personality will forever be a part of our team. Rest in peace Bev, you are loved and missed.
***UPDATE*** Danny Mocibob wins "Rookie of the Year" title at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Finished sixth overall in points! Congrats Danny!
